Happy happy Friday everyone!
Today I'm taking you to the city of Rouen in northern France.
Located on the Seine River, Rouen is the capital of Normandy. This charming medieval city is filled with intriguing history, stunning architecture, and vibrant culture. It is also the city that tells the story of St. Joan of Arc and her tragic imprisonment and execution.
We had one full day in Rouen but we took full advantage of it. The first thing that charmed me about this city were the half timbered houses lining the old historic streets. It was the first time I've seen this timber house style and I gotta say it was really giving me Beauty and the Beast vibes. :) Next on the list were the several breathtaking gothic churches. The Rouen Cathedral was probably one of the most beautiful churches we've ever seen, and we have seen a lot. We were lucky enough to take part in mass on Sunday morning at this cathedral and it was just incredible. A big reason I wanted to come to Rouen was St. Joan of Arc. We went to a museum dedicated to her trial and then visited the tower where she was held captive before her execution. It was surreal to walk the same medieval streets that Joan of Arc did once before and see the places she spent her final days.
Rouen is an incredibly charming city and I'm so grateful we got to explore it even if it was only for just a day!
Hope you all have a lovely weekend!
